Mass Bred Awards

Incentives for a registered Mass Bred that finishes 1, 2, or 3 in a licensed pari-mutuel race in any state.

• Owner’s Award: Owner receives a 10% award on the purse money earned.
• Developer’s Award: Developer receives a 20% award on the purse money earned.
• Breeder’s Award: Breeder receives a 25% award on the purse money earned.
• Stallion Owner’s Award: Stallion Owner receives a 15% award on the purse money earned if the horse is by a registered MA stallion.

Example

An example of a Mass Bred horse winning a race with a $20,000 purse anywhere in any state. If you are the Owner, Breeder, Developer, and Stallion Owner, otherwise amounts are as noted.

• If your Mass Bred horse wins the race you receive 60% of the purse from the track of $12,000.
• As the Breeder of the horse, you receive 25% of the win purse = $3,000.
• As the Developer of the horse, you receive 20% of the win purse = $2,400.
• As the Owner of the horse, you receive 10% of the win purse = $1,200.
• As the Stallion Owner (if applicable), you receive 15% of the win purse = $1,800.

An additional $8,400 in awards for a total of $20,400, not including the Supplemental Purse as noted below.

Additional Supplemental Purse Awards

In lieu of no scheduled restricted Mass Bred races for 2025 the MTBA is offering the following awards to a Mass Bred that runs in a licensed pari-mutuel race in any state. These awards are in addition to the awards listed above.

So, your Mass Bred horse that just won an out-of-state purse for $20,000 just made an additional total in Supplemental Purses of $9,600.

Or a grand total of Mass Bred Awards of $18,000 in addition to the $12,000 purse award from the track.

Notes

• Developer is the owner listed on the racing program for the horse’s first lifetime start. This program is in effect for all Mass Breds making their first LIFETIME start after 7/1/2021.
• Stallion award only paid if horse is by a registered MA stallion.
• The maximum on each Award is $5,000.
