2024 MTBA Breeding and Racing Program


Mass Bred Awards

Incentives for a registered Mass Bred that finishes 1, 2 or 3 in a licensed pari-mutuel race in any state.

  1. Owner’s Awards: Owner receives a 10% award on the purse money earned.
  2. Developer’s Awards: Developer receives a 20% award on the purse money earned.
  3. Breeder’s Awards: Breeder receives a 25% award on the purse money earned.
  4. Stallion Owner’s Awards: Stallion Owner receives a 15% award on the purse money earned if the horse is by a registered MA stallion.

Notes:  

  • Developer is the owner listed on the racing program for the horse’s first lifetime start. This program is in effect for all Mass Breds making their first LIFETIME start after 7/1/2021.
  • The maximum on each award is $5,000.

Special Supplemental Purse Awards

In lieu of no scheduled restricted Mass Bred races for 2024 the MTBA is offering the following awards to a Mass Bred that runs in a licensed pari-mutuel race in any state.  These awards are in addition to the awards listed above.

Notes:  

  • Developer is the owner listed on the racing program for the horse’s first lifetime start. This program is in effect for all Mass Breds making their first LIFETIME start after 7/1/2021.
  • Stallion award only paid if horse is by a registered MA stallion.

 

Breeding Program

Program offers a $5,000 incentive to the owner of a thoroughbred mare that foals in Massachusetts in 2024. If that mare is bred back to a registered Massachusetts stallion in the same year that owner with receive an additional $2,500 incentive.

Notes:  

  • You first must register your Mare using our Broodmare Registration Form and receive pre-approval before shipping your mare to be eligible in the program. In state broodmares apply as well. 
  • The program is limited to the first 25 mares that register with the MTBA with preference given to Massachusetts residents. The program is restricted to two mares per individual and/or entity. If more than 25 mares register, the MTBA will consider adding more availability based on available funding.
  • A $5,000 incentive will be paid to the foaling mare’s owner upon receiving the following criteria; Confirmation by the MTBA that the Mare arrived or is on the Foaling Farm, accompanied by a veterinarian certificate of mare in foal and a copy of your MDAR Broodmare Registration Form to become eligible. https://www.mass.gov/doc/thoroughbred-resident-broodmare-registration-form-late-after-october-15-2024/download
  • If the foaling mare is bred back to a Massachusetts stallion, a payment of $2,500 will be made to the mares’ owner upon submitting MTBA’s Stallion/Mare Cover Report and confirmation of registration with the Jockey Club – Live Foal/No Foal Report.
  • The MTBA, at its sole discretion, may make changes to the Live Foal Program criteria of any nature and kind whatsoever, including terms, conditions, and distribution amounts. Program participants agree to be bound by such changes.

DISCLAIMER:  Nothing contained herein creates a contractual obligation for payment of any award or incentive by the MTBA or any other entity.  The MTBA’s receipt of sufficient funding is primarily dependent on the Race Horse Development Fund and the incentives or awards are a condition precedent to any obligation it may have to pay any award or incentive under the MTBA program.  The MTBA reserves the right at any time, with or without notice, and in its sole discretion to (i) amend the requirements of the MTBA Program, (ii) change the amount of the incentive or award, or (iii) cease paying incentives or awards
